Biography
Dr. Slav W. Hermanowicz is a Professor in the Graduate School at the University of California, Berkeley. His research focuses on sustainability engineering, membrane reactors, biofilm structure modeling, biological processes in water and wastewater treatment, and analysis of full-scale treatment processes. He is also working on metrics of sustainable development with particular applications for engineering decision-making and water reuse. Dr. Hermanowicz previously served as a Research Fellow at the Institute for the Protection of Earth Systems at the European Academy of Sciences and Arts. He received the Research Achievements Award from the California Water Environment Association San Francisco Bay Section. He served as Co-Vice Chancellor and Founding Chief Scientist at the Tsinghua-Berkeley Shenzhen Institute (TBSI). He has been invited to serve as Visiting Professor at leading institutions worldwide including the Technical University of Munich and the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences, Vienna.
