Moritz Schwarz is a climate and environmental economist based at Technische Universität Berlin and the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research, supported by an Einstein International Postdoctoral Fellowship. He holds a DPhil in Climate Econometrics from the University of Oxford and maintains research affiliations there. His work uses econometric methods to assess climate-policy effectiveness, carbon pricing, and the economic consequences of climate change.

Schwarz co-authored the Science study “Climate policies that achieved major emission reductions: Global evidence from two decades,” which evaluated the performance of climate-policy measures internationally. His research also examines structural unemployment in declining coal regions and the challenges of a just transition. He contributes to open-source econometric software, supporting reproducible analysis of environmental policies and economic change.
