Biography
Daniel M. Kammen is a Professor of Energy at the University of California, Berkeley. He has joint appointments in the Energy and Resources Group, the Goldman School of Public Policy where he directs the Center for Environmental Policy, as well as the Department of Nuclear Engineering. Dr. Kammen has authored over 400 publications, more than 50 technical reports, and provided expert testimony in over 40 federal and state hearings.
Dr. Kammen founded and directs the Renewable and Appropriate Energy Laboratory (RAEL), which focuses on renewable energy and sustainability research. He previously served as the Director of UC Berkeley’s Transportation Sustainability Research Center from 2007-2015.
His research expertise includes analyzing global warming risks, developing forecasting methods and risk assessments, evaluating renewable energy technologies, and managing environmental resources. His work centers on studying energy system sciences in the context of decarbonizing the U.S./North American energy system. He also directs field projects across Africa, Latin America, Southeast Asia and Europe.
